Puerto Escondido

PUERTO ESCONDIDO
3/23 14:30 tied to the fuel dock in Puerto Escondido. Our Swiss friends are here! But they were on their way out, 3 miles across the channel to a more secluded anchorage. After topping off on water, Claire and I left ‘Splendid Isolation’ and Piña at the fuel dock and went to the restaurant for email and skype. It’s been at least 2 weeks with no communication! Anchor down at 18:30 in one of many calm nooks in this fascinating bay.
3/25 Awesome fish on. Great fight on the small casting rod with a jerk jigger, off the bow of the boat. My guess is a white seabass or less likely a yellowtail. Biggest thing I’ve caught casting this whole trip. Similar in size to the smaller Mahi that we have caught. 3ft and 15-20+lb range. Hard to tell in the heat of the moment with so many unfamiliar species and only seeing its mouth and slashing body. After a great fight, in and out, perfect drag set. Got it to the side of the cockpit, reached down to pull it in, and it snapped the line! Too small of test for such a beast. Couldn’t get the net out in time. Still can’t shake the feeling.

skinny entrance. sometimes too shallow at low tide!

the waiting room

we measured 11 feet of depth going through at low tide.

pretty big development that has been passed through many hands, even the governments, but just hasn't ever been completed.

local bay scallop rellenos! i saw the chef come in that morning with a fresh bag of bay scallops, so of course we ordered it.

our first trimaran friend.

"Puerto Escondido, a beautiful natural harbor, has a safe deep water marina and also a number of protected anchorages in different spots within a small area.  Puerto Escondido is well protected from the strong northeast winds that can be a hindrance to a peaceful voyage into, or out of, the Sea of Cortez.  This harbor has been a popular stop for both sailboats and power yachts for many years.
What there is of Puerto Escondido lays about a mile off the main highway, fifteen miles south of Loreto.  The junction is well marked and the road into Puerto Escondido is paved.
Puerto Escondido is not your typical Baja beach resort.  This is an area of incredible beauty and has a very kicked-back feeling to it.  It is extremely popular with sail boaters and even has a, very informal, local yacht club."
