Isla Carmen - Puerto Balandra

PUERTO BALANDRA ISLA CARMEN
3/31 Woke up early and started cleaning the boat. Claire and Mom went to the Farmer’s market for provisions. 11:30-14:30 smooth sail 9 miles. Breezy in the anchorage. 4 other boats here. Fished and explored the lagoon, bay, and reefs. Super clear with tons of sea life. Phosphorescence in the water that night. What a crazy light-show that my mother has never experienced! I caught a fish to show her the excitement. You could see every fish around the boat dancing in neon trails. Nonstop sparkling and explosion of mini fireworks under the water. You could see the fish reacting all the way to the bottom. Claire took the dinghy out and did some figure-8s for a grand finale!

getting dinner. piña loves sniffin out the fish.

we were anchored in the center left of the photo, inside that perfect circle of a bay. we were going to hike across to the abandoned salt flats and ghost town, but decided not to in the heat.

Mom instantly fell asleep. guess that means smooth seas?

en route from loreto to isla carmen

the most annoying fish to catch

clear reefs and rocks. best way to fish is to stand on the bench seat of the dinghy and slowly drift over in a few feet of water. you can see every fish from up high like that.

their long mouths are all cartilage. very annoying to get out, especially if they swallow it.

fresh veggies from the loreto farmer's market

claire and mom another clear night out in the cockpit
