Bahia Gato y Toro

3/18 Slept like a rock. New boat on anchor this morning “strider”. Dozen dolphins feeding along the steep shoreline. Dead calm glass. 9:00 Claire pulled up the anchor again! 10:00 sailing towards Bahia el Gato (puerto gato) light SSE wind. Gliding at 4 kts! Calm out. Got up to 5 kts wing and wing for a while. “strider” passed us. 12:00 wind died. Depth sounder showing 2200 ft of water! 13:00 saw a blue whale! Its back came up breaking the surface exposing its full tail and fin. 14:00 light wind motor sailing with the jib about 6 miles til Gato. 15:00 anchor down in the Toro side. One other boat. Immediately rowed to shore! Smooth red bluffs, very intriguing. We walked out to Punta Botella along cobblestone beaches. The cliffs were filled with every kind of precious stone. layers deep of sediment and stones that go on for centuries. Anchovies in the tide pools. This bay is not very protected from the swell but it’s calm out so we’re chancing it. Planning on staying here tomorrow too.
3/20 Anchor up at 11:00AM heading to Agua Verde 15 miles. Puerto Gato y Toro was beautiful! Very glad for the experience. No wind HOT 89º in the galley.

wing and wing felt good for a change

these photos do no justice of the RED

layers and layers of every stone and shell for centuries. 3+ story high cliffs

these were everywhere. so cool.
