San Diego - Glorietta bay and Shelter island

11/10-12

We left Glorietta anchorage after a few days of bad winds and rain and headed over to the anchorage at shelter island. We finalized our international insurance and provisioned up. the last of the foul weather has passed and we plan on leaving here before sunrise, headed for Ensenada Mexico to clear the boat and get our visas. our spot should be working now and tracking our progess. click on the Where are We? page to see our location.

Del Coronado - foul weather

Sorry no wifi so no photos.

11/7 -10 we woke up in a guest slip on shelter island. Met a few other cruisers that are waiting to cross the border. All that fog we came in on turned into nasty wind with spurts of rain. We moved over to glorietta bay right behind the famous del Coronado resort. Been here for a few days on anchor. Swinging back and forth in the wind. Dinghy to shore daily to explore, shower, walk, and provisions. Tomorrow the plan is to head back to shelter island amd anchor there so that we can return our SPOT connect in exchange for the other version. This one is just too much of a hassle. It refuses to work properly. We also need to get a few spare outboard parts, refill on gas, water, and ice. after we finish that the weather should be favorable again and we can head on to ensenada by Monday or Tuesday. Maybe we'll get some wifi tomorrow and add some photos. Until then its back to the wine and card games while we practice our patience.

SPOT connect

hey everyone we just finished setting up our SPOT CONNECT (<--click that) so that you can see our exact location at anytime. we like to think of this as a form of insurance for us. we know that you are watching over us and if we say we should be somewhere and we aren't you are aware. our parents and siblings are directly linked to our spot so they receive personal messages that we send them. we can also send out SOS messages. similar to our EPIRB, but not on the same satellite system. the EPIRB goes to a way bigger satellite with search and rescue. have fun keeping up with us and thanks for watching.

oceanside to mission bay to shelter island

11/5and6
we left oceanside with hotel del coranado on our minds. we plotted our course and departed oceanside at 7:30AM. motor sailed for a couple hours with no wind. dad caught a seagull while trolling. wind picked up real nice and we turned the motor off. 4 grey? whales were feeding right off the side of our boat in a huge ball of baitfish with birds going crazy. sailed at 5kts. when it comes to sailing you kind of just have to let the wind guide you if you want to save on gas and get maximum speed. and the wind led us perfectly into mission bay, so we took it as a sign. the suns setting early these days and we needed to get in and get that hook down. so we pulled into mariner's cover, free anchorage. sleep. lots of it. woke up, cold showers in the public area. pulled up anchor and set off at 11:30am for shelter bay san diego. right around point loma. great sail out at 3kts. then the wind shifted right off the bow. sails down. motored the rest of the way through lobster pot bouys and thick kelp. hit a huge thick fog patch coming around point loma into the harbor. found the guest slips. hitched a ride into town and got a new anchor chain stopper and our mexican fishing licenses! walked back to the boat. made clam chowder, had some wine. super thick fog forecasted til the morning, checking forecast when we get up deciding our departure for ensenada, mexico. first port of clearance, visas.

currently we are tied to a guest slip in shelter island san diego. awaiting the fog to clear out and an updated forecast. hopefully everything blows away so we can continue onto ensenada and get our paperwork handled. we're also working on setting up our SPOT connect. should be up and running soon so everyone can see us on the map.
